theatrical installation
In “Dr. Faustus” the Argentinean artists Emilio García Wehbi and Maricel Álvarez revive the medieval Faust myth and create a dialogue between the works of Goethe, Gertrude Stein, Lars von Trier and Marcel Duchamp. This theatrical installation proposes a counter-narrative to the classic German legend. Based on the formal structure as well as the conceptual and tonal possibilities of Stein’s libretto, five dancers, an old man and the voice of a German actress speaking in English provoke a clash of genres in this peculiar montage.
